As a firm of Taunton solicitors, we are proud to support the communities we serve, especially when there is a chance to help young people take part in life‑changing opportunities. One of our local Scouts, Sadie, has been selected to represent Somerset at the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027, an incredible honour for her, her family and our area. By offering sponsorship and raising awareness through our website, we hope to play a small part in helping her reach this ambitious goal.

For Sadie, Scouting has been a central part of life for many years, and this chance to join thousands of other young people from around the world is a genuine once‑in‑a‑lifetime event. It is an opportunity to develop confidence, independence and international friendships through shared outdoor experience and adventure. At the same time, the cost of attending is significant, and Sadie is working hard to fundraise the amount needed. We have chosen to sponsor Sadie because we believe in supporting local families and giving back to the community that places its trust in us.

We know that many of our clients, colleagues and neighbours in Taunton and across Somerset share our belief in helping young people progress through positive opportunities. This page explains who Sadie is, what the World Scout Jamboree involves, why she needs to raise funds, and how you can sponsor or donate to support her journey. Every contribution, however small, helps Sadie take another step towards Poland in 2027.

Who Sadie is and her Scouting journey

Sadie is a teenager who lives near Taunton and has been involved in Scouting since the age of five. Over the years, she has moved through the different sections, starting as a young Beaver before progressing on to Cubs and then Scouts. Along the way she has taken part in camps, outdoor activities and community projects that have helped shape her character and values. Scouting has given Sadie structure, responsibility and a strong sense of belonging.

Today, Sadie is an active member of her local Scout Group and also volunteers every week with the Beaver section, helping younger children to enjoy the same opportunities she has benefited from. That commitment speaks volumes about her dedication: rather than simply attending meetings, she gives up her time to support others and contribute to the running of the group. Leaders describe her as a very committed Scout who can be relied upon to step in, help organise activities and set a positive example to those around her.

Being chosen to represent Somerset at the World Scout Jamboree is the result of years of hard work, enthusiasm and persistence. Selection is not automatic; young people typically undergo an applications and interviews process and must demonstrate their approach to teamwork, resilience and personal responsibility. Sadie’s successful selection reflects both her personal strengths and the encouragement she has received from leaders, family and friends. As a local firm, we feel privileged to see someone from our area achieve this.

What the World Scout Jamboree 2027 in Poland involves

The World Scout Jamboree is one of the largest youth events in the world, held every four years and hosted by a different country each time. In 2027, Scouts from across the globe will gather in Poland, with the main event taking place in and around Gdańsk. For those chosen to attend from Somerset and the rest of the UK, it represents a three‑week programme that includes the Jamboree itself, travel days, preparation camps and additional activities organised by their contingent.

During the Jamboree, tens of thousands of young people will live, camp and learn together. They will take part in outdoor activities, skills sessions, cultural exchanges and community projects designed to build understanding between different countries and backgrounds. For a teenager like Sadie, this means learning to live alongside people from all over the world, trying new challenges, and gaining the confidence that comes from stepping outside familiar surroundings. It is the type of experience that stays with someone for the rest of their life.

Why Sadie needs to raise £3,650

To take up her place at the World Scout Jamboree in 2027, Sadie must raise £3,650. This amount is set by the organisers and covers a wide range of costs. It contributes towards UK training weekends and preparation camps where the contingent builds teamwork, learns essential skills and gets ready for the trip. It also includes travel to and from Poland, accommodation, food, insurance and all the activities that form part of the three‑week programme.

Importantly, the fee is not just about Sadie’s own expenses. A portion of the amount raised goes into a fund that helps Scouts from less developed countries to attend the Jamboree. That support is vital in making the event truly inclusive and global, ensuring that young people from different financial backgrounds have the opportunity to be there. In other words, by helping Sadie reach her target, you are also indirectly supporting Scouts elsewhere in the world.

Sadie’s 100‑mile May hike and fundraising efforts

One of the main ways Sadie is raising funds is through a 100‑mile hiking challenge during the month of May. Over the course of the month she will walk a total of 100 miles, building the distance up through local routes. This is no small challenge on top of school, volunteering and other commitments, and it reflects the determination she is bringing to her fundraising.

Sadie is inviting sponsorship from individuals and businesses who are willing to back her for the full 100 miles or for a set amount per mile. Some people may prefer to make a one‑off donation in support of the challenge rather than calculating a per‑mile pledge; both approaches are welcome and appreciated. The message is simple: every contribution helps, whether it is a few pounds or something larger. When many people give a little, the combined effect can be enough to cover training sessions and other key parts of the Jamboree fee.

Alongside the hike, Sadie will be looking for support from local people and organisations who believe in giving young people chances like this. Her efforts, combined with backing from the community, will bring her closer to the £3,650 required. By sponsoring Sadie, you become part of that wider story of local people backing a young person to take part in something special.

Why we chose to sponsor a Somerset Scout

As a Taunton firm, we do more than provide legal advice and representation; we see ourselves as part of the local community. Supporting a local teenager who has been selected to represent Somerset at a world‑level Scouting event is a natural extension of that role. We want to see young people from our area take up opportunities that build confidence, independence and a sense of responsibility.

We recognise the value of Scouting in developing skills that benefit young people throughout their lives, such as teamwork, problem‑solving and resilience. These qualities are not only useful on a camp or hike, they are the same traits that help people succeed in education, work and personal relationships. When we heard about Sadie’s selection and fundraising, we felt that supporting her journey was a meaningful way to encourage those qualities in someone from our own community.

Our support for Sadie complements the professional role we play for our clients. Just as we guide individuals, families and businesses through legal matters with care and attention, we also want to play a responsible part in local life. Sponsoring a Somerset Scout heading to the World Scout Jamboree is one way we can demonstrate that we are invested in the future of our community and its young people, not just in the cases that come through our doors.

How you can sponsor or donate to Sadie

If you would like to support Sadie’s efforts to raise £3,650, the simplest way is to visit her fundraising page. A GoFundMe page has been set up where you can go to sponsor or donate, using the link that Sadie and her family have shared: https://gofund.me/42ebd59a0. There you can read a short introduction, see the current total and make a secure online donation.

We should also mention that there is an end date for this fundraising. Sadie needs to have the funds in place in good time before the Jamboree, and this particular campaign and our web page appeal will run until August 2026. By donating now, you give Sadie more time to focus on her preparations, training and ongoing volunteering with her local Scout Group, confident that the financial side is moving in the right direction.

A final word from us

We are delighted to be supporting Sadie, a dedicated Somerset Scout from near Taunton, as she works towards attending the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027. Her selection is a reflection of years of commitment to Scouting, countless evenings and weekends spent helping others, and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone. We have no doubt that she will bring back stories, skills and confidence that will benefit both her and the wider community.

On behalf of all of us, thank you for taking the time to read Sadie’s story and consider supporting her fundraising. No donation is too small, and every show of support, from a contribution to a simple share of her fundraising link, is appreciated. Together, we can help make this once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity in Poland a reality for a local Scout who has already given so much back to others.
